Hello everyone, I am sorry I didnt blog for the first couple of days, but I have been a little busy traveling on business. I am here now and I am ready to go. With that said check out this blog.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that Barack Obama has nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. The significance to this is that she is the second Hispanic to be nominated to the highest court in the land and the third female in the court's history.
(Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Cardozo, a Sephardic Jew who was appointed by Herbert Hoover, was the first Hispanic who served on the court.)

Sonia Sotomayor
Of course, the liberal media and other liberal groups are very excited and singing the praises of Sotomayor and her story, which is a pretty good one. While I honestly believe she will become a Supreme Court Justice, I dont believe that its going to happen as fast as Obama wants it to happen. Obama stated he wanted a quick confirmation before the Summer recess.
Justice Sotomayor has her issues. People that use to work with her say she isnt judicially smart, very mean spirited, and outspoken. (Thats just to name a few) These quotes came from unamed sources, so you can take them with a grain of salt. But there are a few things that have popped up that can be confirmed.
There is a video tape of Sotomayor saying in essence that the courts make policy. She has been quoted as saying that she can make a better decision than a white male based on her experiences. This quote is very troubling because it sounds like she is suggesting that she is smarter than white men. While the comment confused me because I always thought that a justice is simply supposed to judge according to the law, not your life experiences. But I must remember that this is in line with what Obama wanted, a person with
'empathy'.
Not to help her matters is a case of white firefighters who sued for reverse discrimination, Sotomayor tried to dismiss the case and ended up in the Supreme Court, where 60% of her decisions were overturned by the way. So, as the saying goes,
'she will have some explaining to do.'
Although I have my reservations about this pick for the Supreme Court, my real issue is the media and how they are spinning this. These guys are running around singing praises going on how she is so qualified and the Republicans cant go against her out of the fear of being called a racist. So, let me get this right, Democrats can go against Bush nominee Miguel Estrada for Federal judgeship and not be framed as a racist? Democrats can go against Bush nominee Janice Rogers Brown for Federal Judgeship and not be branded a racist? Alberto Gonzales, who's personal story is just as impressive Sotomayor's if not better, recieved no fanfare when he became the first hispanic to become Attorney General and I didnt hear any hispanic groups coming to his aid when democrats were alleging he had fired US attorneys without good reason. I have spoken on this before referencing Colin Powell and Condelezza Rice and how they were treated when they made history themselves.

Alberto Gonzales
This is one of the things that really upsets me about librerals. Its only history when its a person we like. Well, I am sorry, but I dont suscribe to that kind of ignorance. Whether I have favorable opinons or not about a person, I am still going to give the due respect they have earned for their accomplishments.
Perfect example, I met Jesse Jackson Jr in the airport yesterday. I approached him and introduced myself and shook his hand, and he was even nice enough to introduce me to his wife. While I dont share a lot of Jackson's opinions, I respect what the Jackson family has done for the nation and his personal achievements as well.
To simply dislike a person so much that you cant even respect their personal accomplishments is simply stupid.
With that said, I congratulate Sotomayor and wish her every sucess and I also emplore Republicans to do their job and screen the nominee carefully just like any other judicial nomination.
Everyone have a good day.
